Number Six Selects: Lightweight Layers for SS18

March. Autumn/Winter is ending. Spring/Summer is just getting into its stride. It’s an awkward, in between phase for the weather, but it means only good things for menswear. At Number Six HQ it’s the time of year when we can throw the layers on properly, with jackets on lightweight jackets for days on end. In typical Number Six style, we’ve cornered the staff we found hanging about the store, and asked them to put together some lightweight outerwear layering tips. Keeping it simple, yet effective.

First up is Joe, always primed and ready to tell you he’s our best-dressed member of staff, we thought we’d put him to the test for once. Joe paired the Universal Works Cabin Jacket with the Levi’s Trucker Jacket for some heavyweight cotton structuring. Texture is key in this look, by adding a Le Fix T-Shirt underneath there’s added dimension without the unnecessary weight.

Base: Le Fix Break Line Tee (NW Stripe)

Next up, we found Bryony, who went for some solid mid-layer options with the Levi’s Trucker Jacket in a light wash denim with a classic Rains Jacket over the top. Rains are a long-time store favourite. You can’t beat the clean cut, Scandinavian design to keep you dry on a year-round basis. The Levi’s Trucker Jacket is a seasonal go-to for people all over the world: it’s one of the most versatile pieces about on the market, and you can’t go wrong with it.

Finally, we found our e-commerce man Matt. Once we’d tempted him out of the office, he recommended the Barbour Camo Shirt underneath the Carhartt Madison Jacket. The Barbour Shirt can be worn as an overshirt thanks to its gently structured, midweight cotton construction, which means there’s nothing stopping you layering up a t-shirt and a lightweight shirt underneath it too. The Carhartt Madison Jacket stems from the brand’s extensive archive of classic silhouettes. It’s a traditional bomber cut that you can wear all year round, we’re always going to recommend it.
